Rationale
The purpose of this study was to increase orthographic development through word study strategies.
Word study is developmentally appropriate instruction that matches the instructional needs of the learner. Using word study, students are able to build on knowledge they already know, learn what they need, and move forward. With direct instruction and scaffolded support, word features that were previously unknown become incorporated into reading and accurate spelling. The data below supports the concern in the areas of reading, spelling, and understanding word parts, but with word study, orthographic knowledge is predicted to increase. |
